Introduction

     


   The objective of this report is to analyze targeted processes of the Wholesale Division at Wakefern Food Corp., the nation’s largest grocery co-operative. The structured processes of order entry and fulfillment will be reviewed to explore opportunities for more innovation as the current processes utilizes proprietary systems that are not accessible to customers. The dynamic process of customer and departmental growth will focus on sales objectives and the department’s current go-to market strategy surrounding growth and how utilizing additional resources and systems can help achieve their sales targets over the next five years. 

Wakefern Food Corp., headquartered in Keabsey, New Jersey, is the nation’s largest grocery co-operative, comprising itself of 50 members operating under the banners of ShopRite, Price Rite, Fresh Grocer, Dearborn Market, Gourmet Garage and Fairway. The Wholesale division within Wakefern is responsible for servicing customers outside of the banner stores, both domestically and internationally. The division services five different types of customer which include retail stores, distributors, e-commerce, food bank and international. The department has the ability to full-service these customers which include departments such as grocery, dairy, frozen, non-foods, health and beauty, fresh meat, produce and seafood and store equipment such as freezers and shelving. 

The Wholesale division currently has annual sales of $200M. The target for the division is to grow sales to $1B within the next five years. For this type of growth to occur, additional resources and procedures will need to be put into place specifically with emphasis on customer growth and information systems.
